Face Masks … they’re so 13th Century
Throughout 2020 debate raged about face masks.
Some love them but many loathe them.
Some experts said they were essential whilst others said they didn’t do any good at all.
In any event, they were a new experience for many of us working outside the medical and research fields.
Considering how long they’ve been in use it’s amazing that we’re still chattering away about their relative merits.
They’re not an especially recent technology after all.
Marco Polo first encountered them during his travels to China as far back as the 13th century.
He wrote of servants wearing woven masks as they brought food to the tables at the emperor’s banquets.
Worn, he said, to protect the rich and powerful from “malodourous airs lest they tainted the food they were about to eat”.
Ok, technology has come a long way in over 700 years, but the principle is still the same.
Likewise, with what we do – print and web.
Technology has changed the landscape making it is almost unrecognisable from only a few years ago.
But the principles endure.
It’s all about communication. Wisely and efficiently to entertain and inform your audience and to make those tills ring.
No one needs telling that the world has changed in the last year and we need to get real about changing the way we do things too – big time.
Food for thought, perhaps, this week?
But for now, …
If you want a sounding board or just want to bend my ear, I’m on hand for a chat about anything to do with Print or Web Design.
Stay safe.
