Do cars still have indicators …?

The Rolls was due for its service last weekend, so I duly popped along to the dealership and left it for its annual once-over.

Okay, I don’t actually own a Rolls Royce – it’s just what I’ve christened my car.

The morning had been planned down to the minute and once all the booking-in palaver had been dealt with I made for the door at the speed of light.

But not quick enough to prevent me from being waylaid by one of their new-car salesmen.

There was nothing I could do about it. My path had been skilfully blocked by someone well-practised in trapping unsuspecting prey.

My only tactic was to act completely stupid.

So, I asked him, only half-jokingly, why they didn’t make cars with indicators anymore.

Momentarily taken aback by such a moronic question I could see the cogs behind his eyes working quickly to establish exactly what sort of deranged individual he’d happened upon.

Because, of course, cars DO have indicators.

But when was the last time you saw drivers use them?

They are there to signal your intentions to other road users. And they allow traffic and pedestrians to move smoothly on their way.

Just like the signposts on your website.

Yes, your Call-to-Action buttons telling your customers where to go next.

Every website has them, but they’re often poorly used and badly deployed.

And the danger is that when customers aren’t sure where to go next, they go somewhere else.

But with just a little thought they could be deployed so much more effectively.

Next time you have a minute, take a look to see where visitors are dropping off.

It could be a real Aha moment.

So, if you’ve got any projects you’re thinking of pressing ahead with, I’m on hand for a chat about anything to do with Print or Web Design.

Stay safe.
