Monty Don’s trousers …
Monty Don, our national treasure of the gardening world, has been off on his travels again.
Last month saw the launch of a new series with Monty crisscrossing the UK, visiting gardens large and small whilst sharing some enchanting stories of how their farsighted owners brought them into being.
Episode three brought him to North Wales, where, under miraculous blue skies, he visited the stunning gardens of Plan yn Rhiw and Bodnant.
A longstanding must-visit location whether you have green fingers or not, Bodnant is famous worldwide and must rank amongst the world’s top gardens.
Less known is the work carried out by the garden’s owner, Henry McLaren, who designed and built the five Italianate terraces between 1904 and 1914.
Hewn from the hillside by 100 labourers, the terraces took 10 years to build—some later fought in the Great War’s trenches, never to return
It’s estimated that the work done by 50 labourers in an hour could be done by just one with modern machinery.
Testament, surely, to the backbreaking work which brought these beautiful terraces to life.
It’s a sobering thought that 10 men could do the same work in just two years today.
Likewise, we also have the tools and experience to cut your project time dramatically.
Whether you’re working on a graphic design project or wrestling with the most cost-effective print option, why not let us do the heavy lifting for you?
Until next week.
