Satan’s cesspit …

Mowing our lawn is usually well underway by now but we all know what the weather’s been like this winter.

The last time we had this much rain Noah was pulling up the gangplank and setting sail, so it’s unsurprising things are a tad late.

Luckily, we’ve had a few dry days recently so, with a theatrical flourish, I cast off the cover and wheeled our trusty ancient mower out of the garage for its Spring service.

The poor old thing is pretty clapped out so it’s usually nothing more than an oil change, a quick grease here and there and, finally … removing and cleaning the sparkplug.

Which is when things started to look rather ominous.

You see, spark plugs from an engine in good working order usually have nothing more than a light brown tinge.

Whereas the one I removed looked like it had been fished out of Satan’s cesspit.

Luckily for me, after a minute or two with a wire brush and a clean cloth, the plug was as good as new.

Back in it went and to huge relief all round, the engine fired up with a reassuring roar.

Sometimes we treat our business tools like this too.

Some people are all over their Google Analytics and Search Console data (and good on them) whereas many only take a cursory look when they think something is up with their website.

A stitch in time … may be an old proverb but timely action really can save a lot of time and money further down the line.

Food for thought until next time.
