Warning: May Contain Ordinaries …
Hands up anyone who knows their tinctures from their ordinaries.
If asked the same question, I’d ask my interrogator if they’d changed their meds.
However, I discovered that tinctures are the colours, metals, and furs used to create heraldic designs in a coat of arms.
If you’re still with me, ordinaries, on the other hand, are geometric shapes.
And the arcane rules around heraldic design dictate that they should be bold and clear.
At that point, I’m inclined to throw in the towel.
Because that’s only the beginning.
Getting to grips with that lot seems to me like a life-shortening experience. I’m out of there before I damage any more of the few grey cells I still possess.
But there really are people who love it.
In fact, a stratospheric endorphin rush seizes their vitals just talking about it.
Which is kind of like graphic design.
It has its own arcane set of rules that would have your eyes glazing over quicker than a five-minute talk on tax law.
But it’s what we do.
And doing it well can save you a shedload of grief when you send your files to print.
You know where to find us if you need us.
Until next week.
