What’s 500 times faster than the speed of sound?
Readers of a certain vintage might remember Billy Whizz.
Billy was the super-fast fictional character who burst onto the scene in the Beano on the 16th of May 1964.
… and he’s still running.
Causing chaos all around him, Billy was so fast he’d meet himself running in the opposite direction.
Back in those days, he was pretty much the fastest thing around.
Today, we’ve got the Parker Solar Probe, which became the fastest man-made object ever when it reached a speed of 430,000 mph as it hurtled towards the sun.
That’s nearly 400 times faster than a fighter jet or 500 times faster than the speed of sound.
Wouldn’t you just love to see the expressions at Plod HQ when they analysed the speed camera shots when that one flew past?
Mr Toad rides again!
There’s something about speed that grips our fascination.
And in our fast-paced world, speed matters. A lot.
